Scottish Latvian Foundation
CCB is delighted to be a founder member of the Scottish Latvian Foundation which has been created by a group of Scottish and Latvian business people who are concerned at the state of the economy in Latvia, and the current lel of support available to people who wish to start their own business both from banks and government agencies.
For Latvia to flourish there must be a vibrant and growing number of small enterprises, of all sorts, and we believe that through the provision of small scale loans and quality business mentoring we will be able to help a wide range of Latvian individuals realise their ambitions and start their own businesses. These businesses will not necessarily have the potential to employ large numbers, but will be able to provide a degree of employment.
The Foundation which is chaired by John McGrgor FRICS, Latvian Honorary Consul to Scotland, is a not for profit organisation and any money secured or made through the operation of the loan fund will be reinvested to offer further assistance to potential business owners.
The Foundation is non political, and has no interest or intention of becoming involved in Latvian politics.
The Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce has also agreed to become a partner in the foundation and to utilise it's expertise in the setting up and management of social enterprise schemes in the managing of the foundation.
