A strange thing happened in December, I started to get approached out of the blue by US VC firms who wanted to talk about the Baltic.
How they found me I don’t know (but I am guessing it is the power of the internet) but it was very interesting to speak to VC firms across the USA who had suddenly developed an interest in looking at the Baltic. They seemed fairly well informed on the markets (certainly better informed than your average UK venture firm) and have a fairly clear idea of the types of companies they want to invest in.
The main issue I see is their normal investment size, these firms really don’t want to look at deals of less than 5 million euro, and as we all know good tech companies in the Baltic , who are ready for investment and looking to raise deals of that size are fairly few and far between however I have agreed to work with a couple as a “gatekeeper” so we will be keeping my eyes peeled for the right opportunities.
However the most interesting thing about this sudden interest (4 VC companies approached me in the space of 4 weeks) is that the Baltic must finally be on the radar for international technology investors, and it shows that the work tech entrepreneurs from all three Baltic States have been doing in the US to promote their own businesses and their countries is paying off.
